Changelog

What changed in Elegant File Explorer, version by version. New features, improvements and fixes — always 100% local.

Fixed

Files arriving in the open folder now show their icon. A download finishing in Downloads showed up in the list right away, but could arrive without an icon — or thumbnail — until the window was reloaded, because each row asked for its icon exactly once, at the very moment the file was still locked or half-written. The automatic refresh now gives a second chance: a request that came back empty is retried, and a thumbnail taken from an incomplete file is swapped for the final one as soon as it finishes writing.

Fixed

The new icon reached the app's windows. Version 2.5.4 swapped the icon at every size in the package, but the one embedded in the executable stayed old — and it's where every window's title bar, the taskbar, the tray and the jump list take theirs from. The executable now ships the new icon in seven sizes, from 16 to 256.

New

A new icon, from the taskbar to the Store. The app's visual identity has been redesigned: a new icon at every size — taskbar, Start menu, splash screen and Store showcase — plus refreshed listing images.

Fixed

The folder address is readable again in the dark theme. In the list of open tabs, the tooltip with the folder address showed dark text on a dark background. It now takes the right color from the balloon itself, in both themes.

Fixed

The gestures work in every mode. In the Icons, Tiles and List modes, double-click to open, drag to move and the two-slow-clicks rename did not respond — only the Details mode did. All five modes now behave like Explorer.

Fixed

Folders have icons again. When Windows declines the folder icon, the app uses its own icon, drawn inside it, instead of insisting — and a failure is remembered for a few seconds instead of being retried nonstop.

Fixed

Folders have their icons again. A passing Windows hiccup at app startup used to be stored as a final answer, and every folder showed no icon until the app was closed. It is no longer stored — and if Windows fails again, the system's standard folder icon steps in right away.

Improved

Nothing freezes. Every long operation is cancelable and the window keeps answering — and huge folders open right away, without waiting for icons.

Fixed

Nothing gets lost. Paste, delete, rename and undo go into a single queue — two operations never touch the same files at the same time — and when something goes wrong (even copying as administrator), the app tells you what happened instead of pretending it finished.

Improved

Everything readable, everything explained. Colours and text tuned for the light and dark themes, and every empty screen says why and what to do next.

New

Elegant File Explorer in the Windows 11 right-click menu. “Show in Elegant File Explorer” on a file and “Open in Elegant File Explorer” on folders, on the folder background and on drives — right at the top level of the menu.

New

USB sticks and photo cards offer to open here the moment you plug them in.

New

What’s new, inside the app. Every new version introduces itself once and stays at hand under Help ▸ About — in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

New

The free trial goes from 7 to 15 days — and the Store review request now only appears after the purchase.

Fixed

“This PC” opens where you expect it. Click it in the sidebar and the item now stays selected while the drives window appears in the foreground — no longer hidden behind the Explorer and visible only on the taskbar. The command in the Go menu continues to work normally.

New

It talks to Elegant Paper. Select several PDFs, right-click and choose Merge into one PDF — they arrive there in the order you selected them, not in alphabetical order. For a single file there's Open in Elegant Paper.

New

The file Paper creates comes back selected. Done merging, compressing or making a scan searchable over there? The Explorer opens the folder with the new file already selected — no hunting for it.

New

Automations that travel. An automation file (.efeauto) now opens with a double-click and shows a preview of everything that would be imported before a single rule gets in — you read it, check it, then decide.

New

None of this is mandatory. Without Elegant Paper installed, the Explorer is exactly what it always was — the options simply don't appear. When Paper shows up on your PC, the Explorer mentions it once, on a card you dismiss, and never brings it up again.

Improved

No window blocks the app any more. Settings, Auto-organization, Recipe Gallery, the detailed report, Tags, Action history, Printers and the Manual now open alongside: you keep browsing, selecting and working with them open.

Improved

Opening from outside lands where it should. A file opened by another app arrives on the right tab — including when the Explorer was closed.

New

Network like Explorer: type //server or smb:// in the address bar or the network dialogs — the app understands, lists the shares and suggests places you've already visited.

Improved

Cleaner filters: filtering by type, size or extension shows only the files that match.

Improved

Sharper Automation screen: smooth scrolling, clicks that land on the right button, and compact mode now applies to the run history too.

New

Action history on the taskbar thumbnail: see what each undo would do, right from the icon hover.

Improved

Finish: compact density with more breathing room, repeating reminders flagged (↻), Recipe Gallery without the hover balloon, and an extra safety notice when importing automations.

Improved

Automation Manual updated in all three languages, right inside the app.

Improved

Safer file operations: move, paste, delete and undo went through a full reliability review.

Improved

More predictable automation: sturdier rules, history and undo — and the autopilot keeps running with several windows open.

Improved

Sharper search: finds with or without accents and reaches the end of long documents.

Improved

More dependable repeating reminders: the date you pick now drives the series.

Improved

Adjustable list density: Comfortable, Medium and Compact, applied instantly.

Improved

Reading and keyboard polish: contrast reviewed across every theme and accent combination, keyboard focus always visible, and split panels matching the main one.

What’s new

New

A richer Modern (Fluent) look: per-surface translucency (a hint of your accent in the chrome), each window with the right material (Mica, Mica Alt or Acrylic), and crisper text in the Finder blade. Classic stays flat, on purpose.

New

A Finder that forgives typos: it tolerates mistakes (edit distance 1), suggests “Did you mean…” when a search comes back empty, and autocompletes as you type.

New

Opening RAR, 7z and TAR now browses INSIDE the archive and shows the preview — just like ZIP, instead of falling back to Windows Explorer.

Improvements

Improved

Redesigned Tags & reminders screen: status trays (overdue, today, next 7 days, scheduled, done, no date), search, multi-select and bulk actions (complete, snooze, delete).

Improved

Supercharged automation rules screen: filters, multi-field search, collapsible grouping and a compact list for thousands of rules — and the history now filters, sorts and deletes runs.

Improved

Finder usable on a narrow blade: the footer options no longer crowd or vanish — Deep search became an always-visible chip and the advanced ones live in a ⚙ Options menu.

Improved

Menus and ribbon reorganized for a more professional feel: a dedicated Automation menu, destinations gathered under Navigate, right-click submenus and the clipboard on the Edit ribbon.

Fixes

Fixed

The Cards/Compact button on the Automation screen now inherits the theme (no more clashing blue background).

Fixed

Help instructions now point to the new Automation menu.

Improvements

Improved

Drag-to-select in the main panel now draws the box expanding over your files — just like the side panels (before, it selected without drawing the box).

Improved

The active tab now has an accent outline in your theme color: thin, translucent and soft, wrapping the top and the sides.

Improved

Statistics redesigned: a category composition donut, real sizes (recursive scan), top types and largest files. Right-clicking a folder now analyzes that folder.

Improved

Details for thousands of files open instantly: a category summary plus a virtualized list, no freeze.

Improved

The Modern (Fluent) look is now the default; Classic went flat and Mica-free again, clearly distinct from Fluent. Switch it in Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Style.

Fixes

Fixed

English label for the Recipes button (it read “Prescriptions”; now “Recipes”).

What’s new

New

Modern (Fluent) look, optional in Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Style: rounder corners, the Mica material in the column headers and behind the preview, and a glow that follows your cursor. Classic stays the default.

Improvements

Improved

Split-view side panels now have parity: drag-to-select with the mouse, cleaner keyboard selection, and rename with a slow click — just like the main panel.

Improved

The menu bar and status bar now share the same Mica; the white gap between panels is gone; and the compact ribbon follows the material.

New

New

Phones and cameras (USB): import photos and files with a queue, progress and speed — errors are skipped and counted, never aborting the batch; automatic subfolders by date or type.

New

Full network folders: map drives with a connection test first, browse computers and shares, enter credentials on the spot and reconnect dropped letters.

New

A true Ctrl+Z: undo moves, copies, renames and deletions — with an Action history that tells you what each undo will do before you press it.

New

This computer: your drives with usage bars and a visual map of where every GB went — click to dive into folders.

New

Printers: the real status of each one (out of paper, queue, offline) and print your selection on whichever printer you choose.

New

Detailed automation report: the full story of what was (or would be) done, file by file, with CSV export.

Improvements

Improved

Your accent color now tints everything it should: the sidebar highlight, the drag-selection rectangle and checkboxes.

Improved

Folder switching is now crisp and instant — no more brief blur while navigating.

Improved

The Automation Manual’s scrollbars stay subtle and only light up in your color on hover.

Fixes

Fixed

Checkboxes now follow the dark theme in every window (they stayed white) — and the light square in the scrollbar corner is gone.

What’s new

New

Automation Manual inside the app (Help menu): an illustrated ~72-page book covering triggers, conditions, actions and practical recipes — with chapter search and light/dark theme, in English, Portuguese and Spanish. No downloads: just open and read.

Improvements

Improved

The manual’s dark mode is now flawless: tip and warning cards darken along with the theme, text always readable.

Improved

Browsing inside ZIPs: a persistent notice that the view is a temporary copy, the address showing the file’s real path, a confirmation before opening very large ZIPs, and automatic cleanup of old copies.

Improved

Folder transitions are easier on the eyes, and scrollbar hover now follows your accent color.

Fixes

Fixed

On multi-monitor setups (different sizes or scales), the main window could cover the taskbar — when opening, maximizing or dragging between screens. It now respects the work area in every case.

What’s new

New

In-app purchase: complete your purchase without leaving Elegant File Explorer, with the price shown in your currency.

New

The status bar discreetly shows how many trial days remain.

New

Rate on the Microsoft Store without leaving the app.

Improvements

Improved

Purchases are recognized instantly, no restart needed.

What’s new

New

Complete dark theme for forms: every dropdown in the app (batch rename, reminders, compress, filters), the password box and the date picker now follow your theme — including all 8 accent tones.

New

On Windows systems that aren’t Portuguese, English or Spanish, the app now opens in English by default — your manual language choice always wins.

New

Modernized foundation: better performance and stability.

New

The 7-day free trial unlocks everything while you try it.

Improvements

Improved

Multi-window: new windows fit smaller monitors, and closing the main window hands the tray, reminders and autopilot to the window that remains.

Improved

The Done and Snooze 1h buttons on notifications respond instantly, even with the app closed.

Improved

The Recycle Bin handles very long paths, and legacy ZIPs open with accented names intact.

Fixes

Fixed

Opening a folder from the jump list, the efe command or AutoPlay no longer creates a duplicate tab.

Fixed

Batch rename: readable preview in dark mode, decimal commas accepted, and better protection against freezes.

Fixed

Dozens of stability improvements across the app — from Windows shutdown to cancelled extractions.

Fixes

Fixed

The Manage tags window on smaller screens now scrolls as a page: the file list shows in full, no longer cramped.

What's new

New

“Open in Elegant File Explorer” on Explorer's right-click — folders, folder background and drives, right in the modern Windows 11 menu.

New

Copy, cut, paste and drag integrated with Explorer, both ways.

New

Start with Windows, tray and a global Finder shortcut — autopilot stays on watch all day; reminders become native notifications — with Done/Snooze buttons, scheduled in Windows so they fire on time even with the app closed — and the menu gains Windows Share.

New

Hybrid address bar: the path is a clickable breadcrumb that turns into text on click — and the preview moved up next to search.

New

A living taskbar (recent folders, progress, reminder counter), efe in the terminal, AutoPlay for cards/drives and tabs restored after updates.

New

Automatic theme follows Windows live, single instance, and OneDrive cloud state in the listing. Need two windows (one per monitor)? Ctrl+Shift+N opens another — and you can tear a tab off by dragging it out, browser-style.

New

Pasting and deleting in protected folders (the root of C:\, Program Files) now offer “Continue as administrator”, with the Windows confirmation — just like Explorer.

New

Accessibility: the app honors Windows “Text size” (125%, 150%…) — the whole interface follows, live — and the reminders badge on the taskbar is now crisp on scaled displays.

New

Accent color of your choice: 8 tones (Indigo, Blue, Cyan, Emerald, Violet, Pink, Amber and Graphite) in Settings — applied to buttons, selection and charts, in light and dark themes — and the Mica material is now more present.

Fixes

Fixed

The weekly report showed an absurd percentage change when the previous week had no data. In that case it now shows “First week”.

Fixed

The asterisk note on the time estimate is visible again.

Fixed

Rule-builder controls that appeared washed out in dark mode.

Fixed

On first launch on smaller screens, the window now fits the work area and keeps a clear top drag area.

New

New

Simple mode for the rule builder — “when this happens, do that” — with an optional advanced mode for those who want more control.

New

The classic menu bar is now hidden by default without leaving an empty strip: the reminder bell moves to the ribbon, and a discreet button restores the bar at any time. The two surfaces are never hidden together — hiding one brings the other back, so the bell never disappears.
